Trinitas PreK: A Classical and Montessori Hybrid
The Trinitas preschool is a unique program that is anchored by a belief that young children should be given many sensorial opportunities to come into direct contact with the world that God has created. We believe that work, internally and externally, is really ‘play’ for the youngest among us, we realize that practical life skills become the avenue by which the young child makes order and sense of his world. We endeavor to impart to each child the knowledge of Jesus Christ as his Savior within the context of a developmentally sound program that meets each child right where he is in his spiritual, emotional, physical, and developmental world.
Intensive training in Christian Montessori methods combined with a traditional Classical Christian model yields a unique and desirable product for families who want just as much emphasis on a child’s spiritual development as they do on academic readiness.
Trinitas PreK reflects this natural combination of tactile and cognitive development and there’s currently nothing quite like it in our community.

Beauty
Children have the innate ability to recognize the overwhelming qualities of beauty found in the ordinary day-to-day. Oftentimes, we adults move so quickly through life that we fail to take in the magnificence surrounding us.
At Trinitas, our preschool classroom is designed in a way in which the children appreciate the beauty in the simple. There exists a satisfying sense of orderliness. To create this aesthetic, all of the tables and shelves are wooden. This pure sense of furnishing invites the children to a feeling of security and peace. By feeling comfortable in their space, the children’s capacity for growth becomes limitless. The various materials around the room entice the children to slow down in thought and movement to connect the concrete and tangible objects in their hands to the abstract and conceptual workings of their brains. This method of slowing down allows the children to acknowledge the beauty in learning and understanding.
God’s creation is the most amazing example of the beauty all around us. It is important for God’s creation to be present in the classroom. Children realize the intricacy of creation by looking at leaves, flowers, rocks, insects, and more. They are taught to respect and care for creation. Children are encouraged to consider God’s marvelous works and how His creation is relevant to our lives and in the classroom.

Through the children’s hands, their minds understand and their excitement is exhilarated. “I did it!” is the child’s exclamation upon mastering a challenging concept. This is the moment when the development of self-esteem and awareness occurs. From this point on, the child is ready to move forward in their development to greater challenges. This is the primary work of the child. It comes from deep within, and it is to be respected and cherished. Through this self-discovery, the child builds character.

Following Bible memorization and readings, the children engage in reflective conversations about what these verses and stories mean and how they can apply them to their own lives.
For example, the children might learn the meaning of “as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Our words and actions affect one another. Therefore, it is important to reflect God’s love to our friends. The children might learn how to be a compassionate friend after reading and reflecting upon the story of how Ruth served and provided friendship to Naomi.
The children build each other up by working alongside one another and contributing their abilities to collectively understand new material. They know that when they choose to listen and obey during instructional times, they are helping their friends to learn by creating a space free from distractions. These are ways in which we learn how to care for one another.
In the classroom, the children are presented with opportunities to encourage and serve one another through kind words, thoughtful responses and selfless actions.

Reality cannot be properly experienced without a conscious reliance upon the gracious empowering of the Holy Spirit and the knowledge that we have been purchased by the blood of Christ. Therefore, all lessons and ideas must be governed by and in accordance with God’s word. The end of all knowledge is the glory of God and the good of the world.

It is through the declaration of God’s Word, the liturgy of celebration, praise, worship, and prayer that we witness children respectfully working together as they contemplate their unique relationship with God. With the knowledge that little hands are the instruments of the child’s heart and mind, we surround the child with developmentally appropriate materials and work that inherently lead to a peaceful experience.
Learning how to love through forgiveness, serving one another, and speaking in kindness are all things that flow through the daily lessons in our classes.
We can experience the simplicity of a child’s love for God, and His love for them. As they lead us to Him through their pure and devoted responses to the declarative Word of God and prayer, we can see why Jesus said; “Forbid NOT the little children to come unto Me; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” May we be found faithful to lead them into His presence with His love.

When our children use their imagination, they are using the gift that God gave them to wonder. In our class time together, we consider that when God created the animals, He gave them to Adam to name. Adam used his imagination to come up with the names for the animals. We, too, are given incredible imaginations to create amazing works! Our creations point us back to the Creator, as He is the source of all things creative. It makes our little ones happy when they use the gifts that God gave them. The gift of play gives the children a wonderful opportunity to put their imagination into high gear. Since children learn best through play at this age, we see the beautiful harmony of learning while playing in our Montessori and Classical program.
