TCA Students Excel in National Latin Exams

Students at The Classical Academy of Franklin were among more than 154,000 students in 50 states and 15 countries to take the National Latin Exam co-sponsored by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League. The test includes seven categories ranging in skill level from “Intro to Latin” to “Latin VI.” Nine TCA students placed in the national competition — nearly half of the upper school students who elected to take the exam.

“I’m very proud of our students’ efforts and the recognition they have received,” said TCA upper school principal and Latin teacher Ben Crist. “It’s really a testament to the skills developed in the Latin program at TCA, and shows they have an understanding of the language that’s deep and inquisitive.”

TCA students begin Latin training in the primary grades and continue through high school. Knowledge of the language has long been tied to increased development of logical thinking, a more powerful English vocabulary and a deeper understanding of grammar. Students who know Latin perform exceptionally well on standardized tests.

ACCS Founder Douglas Wilson to speak April 12-14

ACCS and Logos School founder Douglas Wilson will present a series of lessons entitled “Cultivating the Christian Family” Friday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. and the following Saturday morning, April 13, at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Reformed Church, located at 1301 Franklin Rd. in Brentwood. He will also wrap up the conference by preaching at St. Mark’s Lord’s Day worship on Sunday, April 14, at 11:00 a.m.

Wilson, who serves as pastor of Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho, is also a founder and Senior Fellow in Theology at New Saint Andrews College, founder and editor of Credenda/Agenda magazine, and founder of Greyfriars Hall, a three-year ministerial training program. He also serves on the governing boards of New Saint Andrews, Logos School and the Association of Classical and Christian Schools.

TCA Songwriters’ Night Feb. 12

The Classical Academy of Franklin will host a star-packed Songwriters’ Night Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the historic Franklin Theatre. Doors open at 6 p.m. for an Hors d’oeuvre reception and silent auction and the concert begins at 7.

The event will be headlined by award-winning singers/songwriters Dave Barnes, The Warren Brothers, Jason Sellers and Grammy winner Josh Kear. Performers also include BE Music and Entertainment artist Ashley Brandenburg, Christian artist Nathan Clark George, Nashville Star season 2 finalist Lance Miller and David Tolliver of the duo Halfway to Hazard. Proceeds will benefit TCA’s Annual Fund, which supplements operating and scholarship expenses not covered by student tuition. TCA kicks off December with parade, Christmas Program

TCA students and families will participate in the annual Kiwanis of Cool Springs Christmas Parade Saturday, Dec. 1. The parade starts at 2 p.m. in Jim Warren Park and travels through Franklin. Students signed up to ride on the float should meet at the school at 12:30 p.m.

TCA’s annual Christmas Program will take place Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the First Presbyterian Church located at 101 Legends Club Lane in Franklin. Families and friends are invited to attend the annual concert, which will features performances by all k-11 students.

Chili Cook-Off Saturday, Nov. 10

TCA’s annual Chili Cook Off will be held Saturday, Nov. 10 from 5-8 p.m. at TCA.

Contact Mrs. Christy to be a judge, competitor or just enjoy some fellowship. Gift cards will be awarded in the categories of “Judges’ Choice,” “Spiciest” and “Crowd Favorite. ” The donation jar with the highest dollar amount will win the crowd favorite award.
